Finally, Better Off!

It's been hanging around on my easel so long being refined, and refined and tweaked and adored... that I can literally not believe that this painting is finally finished!

So without further ado:

Featuring many of my favourite themes, pretty tea cups, a woman in a white dress, vintage luggage, the Australian Desert, Royal Red circus curtains, these things make me so happy :-) I am not sure if her ship is coming in, and if so, if it was the ship that she was after, or if it is just dropping off the rest of her luggage! This beautiful piece will mean different things to different people and I look forward to hearing your comments.

She is on her way to Gallery Beneath at Mooloolaba where she will be available for investment.

Otherwise, it has been awfully good painting weather here, with the rain pelting down continuously, being outdoors seems a little un-enticing. the rain did clear momentarily this morning allowing me to do a little photography in preperation for my next piece which I am so incredibly excited about. I have been keeping my daughter awake at night describing to her what it is going to look like.

I have also been reading an incredibly fabulous book titled "The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern, a completely magical story that will fill your head and heart with delight, magic and wonder! I am sure it will be a while before I find another book that I love like this one.

So I leave you as I dive into my just delivered box of new art supplies (yay).

Summer fun

OK, I thought I might just give you a little peak into our summer holidays... I love love love my camera and I am pretty sure that my kids are used to having the paparazzi follow them where ever they go these days. I have downloaded a new vintage camera app. and so the photographic love affair is undeniably 'on again'! This one is from a morning at the local skate park... although I can't say that much skating went on... but a lot of fun was had as the steamy summer breeze drifted past slowly.

My latest painting (still un-named) is almost done and I will be posting the finished work after it has been delivered to Gallery Beneath at Mooloolaba.

Summer holidays are nearly done too, but I think we have made the most of them :-)

Bienvenue and welcome to all on this fabulous day :-)

Much has been in the works behind the scenes here at Nirvana Visions, during this Christmas and newyears break and I have a beautiful new work that has been on the easel for weeks, being brought to life...

Here are a couple of sneak peak close up sections of the same work in progress... hmmm, I wonder what the WHOLE painting looks like?

Well, you will just have to stay tuned.

My daughter has also been working on her own new painting of herself and her brother in the circus:

She is a chip off the old block our Zoe, I am so proud of her beautiful paintings and she is sure picking up some great technique fast!

We are now reclaiming order in our household after weeks of Christmas discord of toys, packaging and wrapping paper and getting back to a clean house and private art lessons which start back this week. Spaces are filling fast, so contact me now if you would like to introduce some private lessons into 2012. On your own , or with a friend, private art sessions are a great way to invest in your own creative inspiration and skill as well as a bit of 'me time', which we all need!

The traveller's heart is always beating...

Hi there friends and fans,

Well despite technical difficulties with my camera, I still wanted to offer you a peak at my newest painting fresh off the easel (so my apologies for the slight over-exposure at the centre of this painting photo). "The Road Less Travelled" is my latest work. I could go on for days as to why I love this image so much and why I chose to paint it...

Your feet only need touch the earth once and your spirit warmed in just a single moment in this life and that moment will stay with you always. I have met and even had the opportunity to spend time with some of these incredibly awe-inspiring creatures and I really feel that they have a world of wisdom that you connect with when you look into their eyes. This is what I was hoping to capture in this painting... I hope it brings you great peace within and a touching reminder that the world is bigger than our own four walls.

Storm brewing!

Hello there art lovers,

Welcome to my easel :-)

Fresh news of a storm brewing inspired my latest painting "Storm In A Tea Cup". Light and fluffy with flowing freedom of beautiful blues, this painting was a pure pleasure to paint and brings great peace to all who rest their eyes upon it.

Here is another shot of the piece in different lighting, with all of its layers of blue while it was in the works. This gives you a better view of the depths of blue carried in the piece:

Our first ever 'Student Art Show!

Nirvana Visions Student Art Show 2011

Well normally this blog is reserved to the stroking of my own ego, but today is a special day where I am going to spend just a little bit of time stroking the ego of our wonderful Art Students that have been attending art lessons with myself and Leigh.

Friday night marked the opening of our first ever 'Student Art Exhibition' showing works from almost all of our students ranging in ages from 5yrs to 85yrs! The works on display will be open to the public until Friday 21st october at the Peregian Beach Hotel, so if you couldn't come along on the opening night, you can still pop in to have a look, maybe even to buy one of these unique works.

Both Leigh and I are incredibly proud of each and every one of our art students, especially Monique who won our 'Golden Brush' award for the student with the greatest improvement in skill, technique and self -ascertion / inspiration over her time with us in our classes.

Thankyou again to those who attended the opening night, we hope that each of you have gained much from your lessons with us and your inclusion in our first ever Student Art Show, all of your works looks absolutely fantastic!

On another note, just to show you that you don't need to attend a studio to do yoga, here is a quick pick of how Leigh and I prepared ourselves for the big night...

We have been vigilantly attending yoga classes at Bikram Yoga and Massage at Noosa. Having only been attending for a short period of time, we can already sing the praises of this torturous but extremely beneficial practise, if you would like to know more, just pull one of us aside for a quick chat about it.

Having recently received interest from Gallery Beneath at Mooloolaba, I am just now finishing off a small sereies of works to be represented by this Gallery. Here is a quick little preview of one of these paintings in its finishing stages, to be sold through the gallery. Oh my gosh it has been a long time since my last post!

Well, despite this, I have been a busy little artist and am currently working on a circus themed artwork. I have always loved the circus and considered myself a closet nomadic gypsy and I love to portray this kind of character within my paintings. Still currently in the sketching phase and definately with a few weeks to go, but I love her already!

To be titled: Between the Crowds, this painting (sketch, at present) measures 30 by 40 inches on Gallery linen.

Welcome to Nirvana Visions for 2011!

Well I have finished painting everything that stays still in our house. And my new red chair is still my favourite new addition. And just when you thought things might be calming down... we are about to have our kitchen renovated! Following this event, the entire house will be covered in plastic from one end to the other in order to protect its' sacred beauty from my own arty festivities.

I have much planned for this year including raising more funds than ever for the Nambour Children's Hospital through Give Me 5 For Kids, lots of teaching, Painting, Competitions and family time.

I have bought a beautiful new Thermos covered in Pink with flowers with the small ambition of spending the odd morning at the beach drinking home brewed Chai (just because it doesn't come any better). And my bycicle and I are hoping to become very well aquainted this year too :-)

I have recently launched a new outdoor range of works and as a collaborative exercise with Co-Artist Leigh Hutfield, we now have an incredibly beautiful range avaialble through our Frugsil Gallery. You will soon be able to find our works at Brookfield Garden Centre in Brisbane, Get Outside in Kawana and other locations on the Sunshine Coast!

And finished just this morning is my absolute favourite newest work titled "High Tea in the Garden"... see if you can spot it below...

Behind the scenes...

Well it's the final days leading up to Christmas and I have been a very busy artist... but not on the canvas.... nope, now that I am painting in my new favorite medium of mural paints, nothing is safe! I have decided that my kitchen table needs to be white, with two white chairs, one purple glitter chair for my daughter and one blue chair for my son.

Note the plastic cover to try to prolong this new fad. I never thought I would be the kind of mother that puts plastic over everything, but look out sofa, you might be covered next!
Following this, the kids' trundle bed needed to be magicked into blue and their door into an auspicious color called 'Yeeha'!

I finally ran out of energy after creating my absolute favourite addition to mix... the 'hot seat'. I love love love this humble chair painted undeniably red! It is the centre piece of my inspiration corner and the icing on the cake to get my mind turning and ideas happening.

My P.A. Leighdoll just loves to sit in the 'hot seat' when I am not using it. I think she is also the same one that makes all the mess and spills the paint on the carpet while I am sleeping.

And thanks to the rainy weather so far this holiday, I have finally created my new workspace and the above-mentioned inspiration spot where all the magic happens.

Balls of colorful yarn, magazines, knitted dolls, crystals, Ruby Shoes and flowers...Just add a cup of tea, and I am in heaven.

We are coming into Christmas and so I thought it might be nice to launch a completey new product!!!
So here it is, my Garden Gallery range of works.

This new range of works offers two options:
Sunny Side Up original works that are suitable for the full range of weather! These works will bring color and delight to your garden and can be hung on the fence, your walls, at your entrance or mounted to a tree or cubby house! They are all weather, UV and graffiti protected. At 60cm by 60cm these works are now selling at $240 each.

Shady Characters original works are suitable for outdoors but only in the shade. These works offer intricate layers of aacrylic paint and resin that mingle together to create a look of great intricacy and depth. Some of these works even have semi-precious stones embedded within the layers of resin. At 60cm by 60cm, these works are now available at $440 each.

I thought that I might take a moment to invite you all into a small part of my art studio... featuring my latest (and almost finished work)...

My favorite apron for painting in...

My current commissioned work about to be painted on the left, my books and trinkets of inspiration and my almost completed "The Constant Traveler". This commissioned piece on the left is of 3 beautiful boys flying in an Open Cock-Pit Plane over a cloudy landscape... I can't wait to see it finished, it is already looking fantastic and it is only drawn in in pencil!

There's nothing like a bowl of fresh flowers for inspiration (Teddy Sunflowers provided by Flax Flower in Birtwill St, Coolum)

My latest work "The Constant Traveler" up closer... a beautiful, resin coated and luscious work featuring hand crocheted flower, paper birds cut from local maps of the Sunshine Coast, lace and wallpaper!

Around the World in the Blink of an Eye

A fabulous book, just released by Wee Press and written by Lou Hood, that just happens to feature a commissioned illustration by yours truly (pictured at the left of this image). The book depicts through artists works, what might be happening at one particular moment in any place around the world. It is an artistic feast as well as an educational and eye opening experience to share with your kids that embraces all cultures and landscapes.

Art for Feng Shui

Art combines well with Feng Shui...

Not sure which painting should go where in your home / office?

If you are curious at all about Feng Shui or the flow of energy into your life... then get ready for a great little tip! According to Ellen Whitehurst in late July, Red Birds will bring good news:

July 23: ..." good news is on its way. What else could that planetary pairing possibly mean? PREPARE. It’s coming. Put some birdseed up your walkway or images of red birds in the FAME area of your house! Birds bring good news. So does this day! Enjoy"

So if you have a painting of Red Birds, shift it now to the Fame area of your home / office.
If not, I will be releasing a small series of Red Bird paintings, some of which will be on display at Flax Flower in Birtwill St. Coolum in the coming weeks.

The annual Give me Five For Kids Art Auction was hosted last night at the Maroochydore surf club by Mix FM and it was a very exciting event where a lot of well known artists donated their art for this wonderful cause.

"Paper Boat Dreams" - was the piece that I donated..... and it sold in the Live Auction for $1200 - to the very happy Jennifer Reginato.

In total, we raised over $9000 for Mix FM Give Me five for kids; who donate all proceeds to the children's wing in the Nambour Hospital on the Sunshine coast.

What a great way to say thankyou to those who have helped our children through sickness and tough times, and to help those children still in need of urgent medical help. A big thanks to Caroline Hutchinson (pictured below) who has a way of raising the spirits of all within a room, by simply being there and being herself...

Lethbridge 10000 was held last night at the Lethbridge Gallery in Paddington, Brisbane. A fabulous night and "Magic Maker in My Mind" was one of the first to sell. I am a little bit sad to see this one go but I know that it will bring great joy to the buyer and all who see it in its new home :-)

Zoe was the belle of the ball as everyone asked if it was her in the painting.

Dear Clients and Art students,

Well we have come to the end of a fabulous year!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas.

I hope that you are enjoying your Christmas shopping and your plotting and planning for a great holiday ahead. I know that I certainly am.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of my Art Students on the beautiful works that each have created this year. It has been an absolute pleasure to teach you and you have all come along so far in your sketching, painting and compositional skills.

To celebrate this fact and honor your successes, I am hoping to organize an exhibition of your works in the new year. I would love for this event to be a real celebration of your work and one that I would love for many of your family and friends to be invited to. Of course, there will be some great prizes for a peoples choice award and lucky door prize at the event so I hope that all are keen to bring their works along to show. This event will be planned for early Feb 2010.

Art Classes have just 2 weeks left and will be wrapping up on Friday 11th. I will be available for intensives if individuals would like to organise private sessions if works need to be finished in time for Christmas. Private tuition is available at $20/hour.

The not so good news:... don't panic, it is not a total shut down... but as I merge into the world of fine art it is necessary to change tact and refine my public window now and then... The Financial Review, June 26, 2009 published an article on the Federal Government's investment allowances for businesses with a turnover of less than $2m, they will be entitled to a 50% tax break on art purchases over $1,000 that are contracted for before December 31, 2009. For those of you who speed read, I shall start with the most important news:

No Class on Tuesday 11th August!
I am having a little holiday with my beautiful family and I will also be out of range with my phone at this time. I look forward to recommencing classes with you from Thursday 13th August and all are welcome to come to this morning (10am) or evening class (7pm) that will miss out on the Tuesday.

For those of you who have not heard, Leigh and I have decided to add our magic to the Peregian Markets... we have created a beautiful and magical stall offering a great range of inspiring paintings and products to bring a little delight into your day (did I mention that you can find fairies at our stall? If you don't find them at the bottom of your garden, you will certainly find them here!).

We would love to see you down there, so come and visit us when you can. The Peregian Markets are held on the First and Third Sunday of each month.

If you are stuck down in Sydney in the cold and can't make it up to Queensland (every Thursday 10am or Tuesday 7pm) for a class... don't panic! I am heading down to Sydney to the 'Manly Arts Festival' on the 26th September to run a workshop for "Creating your own Goddess Affirmation Image".

It's Official

Color and art make the world a happier place!!!
I came to this realization when, over Christmas, I splashed out a little and bought myself some pink clothes pegs, some rainbow dish gloves and a rainbow broom. In the days that followed this seemingly wasteful purchase... I glanced out into the back yard, and I got a little tingle of happiness and a little smile crept over my face as the pink pegs caught my eye. They look so bright and fun amidst all the drab washing. All of a sudden, I am excited about hanging the washing out and I will use ONLY the pink pegs :-) I take great delight in donning my rainbow dish gloves as I am scrubbing and scouring and I must admit that i feel a little more like a domestic Goddess than a cleaner now.

I have definitively decided that splashes of color make the world a happier place and in I am ready and inspired for another year of art to bring delight to the world (like I need another excuse to paint).
